Web Survey Bibliography
Der Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über die durch computervermittelte Kommunikation entstandenen Instrumente und Methoden empirischer Sozialforschung und die Diskussion ihrer methodischen Validierung. Instrumente (insbesondere Datenerhebungsinstrumente) und Methoden (planmäßige Verfahren) sind online auf jeder Stufe des Forschungsprozesses einsetzbar. Dabei werden reaktive und nicht-reaktive Datenerhebungsinstrumente unterschieden. Befragungen, Inhaltsanalysen und Beobachtungen können online-basiert mit Hilfe des Internets durchgeführt werden. Online-basierte Datenerhebungsinstrumente wie Online-Fragebögen (reaktiv) oder Logfile-Analysen und die Auswertung von Datenspuren (nicht-reaktiv) finden in zahlreichen Forschungsdesigns Verwendung. Auf Grund des technischen Fortschritts, der sinkenden Kosten und der erhöhten Schnelligkeit hat der Einsatz von Online-Instrumenten und -Methoden in den vergangenen Jahren zugenommen, sowohl im kommerziellen als auch im akademischen Bereich. Dennoch ist deren Verwendung – insbesondere in der Sozialforschung – alles andere als unumstritten. Deshalb sind verstärkte Anstrengungen im Gange, die Qualität von Online-Instrumenten und -Methoden auch auf den bislang umstrittenen Einsatzfeldern zu verbessern.
